About Me

Gwen B. Hawley

Clinical Social Work/Therapist, MSW, LCSW, MAEL

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 24 years of professional experience and two Master’s degrees. My career experiences include working in a hospital, high school and owning a private practice. I passionately pursue knowledge that will help my clients; especially in area of neuroscience.

More importantly, beyond my credentials, is that you feel comfortable with me. This is the foundation of a powerful therapeutic relationship.

Untangling “Therapy”

Therapy should not be scary, nor should it be complicated. It requires strength to explore our emotional and mental limits and to address what is holding us back while actively seeking new knowledge to change our lives. My clients are among the bravest people I know.

I have been so honored to have worked with and have been trained by Dr. Kenneth Blum and the late William Downs. Dr. Blum is one of the top neuroscientists known all over the world and his 50 years of research has profoundly affected how to treat mental health issues and addiction through neuronutrients as opposed to pharmaceutical interventions. When you create dopamine homeostasis in the brain and optimize other neurotransmitters you are correcting WHY the brain craves other things to begin with ie: food cravings, shopping addiction, alcohol, sugar and other harmful substances. You must correct the WHY not cover it up with more drugs even if they are pharmaceutical. There is a place for pharmaceutical intervention but it should never be the be all end all.

William Downs is well known and published in educational journals on neurobiology and how herpetic viruses can greatly affect one’s mental and physical well being and what is needed to support our bodies own ability to heal from these things.

Both Dr. Kenneth Blum and William Downs have profoundly changed my life forever with the knowledge, love and support they gave me to not only help me heal my body but teach me how to help others heal as well. I’m both grateful and humbled by this gift I’ve been given.

My Approach

I provide a non-judgmental, safe environment for you to explore your concerns and become the best version of yourself. My clients describe me as highly intuitive, loving, motivating and professional.

I don’t use psychobabble. My approach is down to earth, educational and adapted to meet your individual style. I use psychological principals combined with lifestyle education (exercise, diet, nutrition) and the newest research to empower you to start living the life you want and to install hope again.

I use techniques that protect your dignity, teach you how to process the source of your pain while gaining strength, understanding and compelling insight. These techniques may be used for physical and emotional problems and may positively impact areas such as personal relationships, sports and business.

I may not have walked a mile in your shoes, but I guarantee, I’ve tried them on or I may have even run a marathon in them. I “get it”, and I will seek to understand what I don’t so we could walk together to health.

“Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars.”

Khalil Gibran
